Temple Visit & Diwali Celebration

HSC temple visit to the Concord Shiva Murgan Temple!

As you may know, Diwali this year falls on Nov 13th. For this occasion, we’ll be making a trip to the temple the day before (when it is being celebrated in India!):

Monday, November 12th at 5:30 PM
Berkeley Bart Station

We will be attending the Shiva Murugan Abishekam
We’ll meet at the Downtown Berkeley Bart entrance at 5:30 (bring some Bart $) and we’ll head over to the temple!

Shiva Abhishekam is usually performed to a Lingam representing Lord Shiva’s manifestation as a creator of good (by destroying evil) and is a bathing ceremony conducted by priests, by pouring libations on the image of the deity being worshipped, amidst the chanting of mantras.

Diwali, also known as the “festival of light” is a five-day festival, beginning on the 15th day of the Hindu calendar. It marks the beginning of the Hindu and Gujarati New Year and is celebrated with the lighting of lamps and candles, and lots of fireworks. HSC will be hosting a Diwali celebration on:

Thursday, November 15 at 7:00 PM
Campanile Esplanade

There will be an Aarti, a Rangoli competition, and snacks! In the Rangoli competition, you can paint a Rangoli design of your choice. Examples and materials will be provided. The winner will get a prize! So come and celebrate one of the most exciting festivals of the year!
